New exhibition of works by Helen Wilde
The Upward Flowing River
A collection of approximately 200 paintings created by Helen Wilde during the covid pandemic.
"The upward flow of the river was my symbol of optimism and possibility.
Defying the rules of gravity, it flowed and carried me on a spiritual journey."
My long term driving force in making art is an attempt to produce something great and always failing. Depicting the upward river presented me with an additional challenge to alter the perspective of a landscape painting so that the foreground receded.
The strange period that we lived through, if lucky enough to survive, was my opportunity to think deeply and to concentrate on creating art. The river flowed through the many sagas life threw at me both personally and on a wider field. Sometimes I needed to bring order to the chaos and at other times just express it.
